Henley Royal Regatta 2021

This year, due to the COVID restrictions in the lead up, the senior squads at City of Sheffield Rowing Club decided not to send any crews down to Henley Royal Regatta. However, that didn't mean that there wasn't boats to cheer for!

Two former senior men's squad members both raced in Thames Cup for other clubs after leaving the city of Sheffield for jobs in Cambridge and London. James Lindsey (2016-2017) raced for Cantabrigian in the four seat, beating Old Monmothians Boat Club on the Wednesday, and then finding themselves on the wrong side of a tight race to City of Bristol on the Thursday.

Matt Tapley (2016-2019) raced for Vesta in the six seat, beating East India Club on the Wednesday and Lea Rowing Club on the Thursday, and then just failed to make it to the weekend after losing out to the eventual Thames Cup winners, Thames Rowing Club.

Closer to home, the University of Sheffield qualified their first boat into Henley Royal Regatta in over 20 years, getting their 4+ to qualify for the Prince Albert Trophy. Unfortunately, they lost out in the first race to Lady Margret Boat Club. However, their qualification gives them a great spring board to see huge improvement over the coming years.

Videos of some of these races can be seen below.
