York Spring Regatta 2016

On Saturday 30th April we headed over to York City to compete at York Spring Regatta. We fielded a variety of boats, and even a marshal or two. Donald was looking very smart in his club blazer!

The transition squad fielded 6 crews: 2 doubles, 2 singles and 2 quads. It all proved to be valuable experience for all the scullers!

The women's novice quad won a semi-final and the final of women's novice quad sculls. Less than a year after starting their journey into rowing, they are no longer novices! Congratulations to Kate, Katy, Meri, Georgie and cox Alice!

The weather was changeable and poor Fran ended up racing in the hail. Only moments after her race finished it stopped and it was back to blue skies and sun!

Other notable mentions go to Dexter Burton and Rob Carr who raced for the first time in the men's novice single sculls. Dexter won his first ever race in a scull in the first heat but was unfortunately knocked out in the semi-final.

The men's eight raced but lost out by half a length in the first heat of the men's IM2 8+.

The men's IM1 4- consisted of Matt Tapley, Mike Jones, Orco and Joel Kesterton. They won their category in division 2 (congratulations!) and went on to race a coxed championship 4+ in the final division. Unfortunately they were pipped at the post, narrowly losing by half a length.

It all got a bit much for Orco between races and he had to take a nap...

When all was said and done we'd had a great day's racing. The club had a number of wins and came home with plenty of pots! Thank you to York City Rowing Club for hosting the event. We look forward to the next one!
