New Boathouse Fund
We are Sheffield's only rowing centre, based at Damflask Resevoir near Low Bradfield in the Peak District National Park. We cater for a broad range of age and ability, from recreational rowers to World Masters Champions and Olympic hopefuls.
We are looking for support in upgrading our facilities and need your help. Any donation amount will be greatly received. You can donate here.
We share our facilities with the two universities, the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam. Each club has around 70 members so that over 200 rowers enjoy our beautiful setting. At all three clubs demand for places outstrips supply. The City of Sheffield Rowing Club's Learn to Row course has been oversubscribed for the past 10 years and rowing is thriving at the two universities.
We operate from two boathouse; and agricultural asbestos clad shed built by Sheffield Waterworks in 1970 and a more modern steel frame building completed in 1994.
Capacity of the club is limited by three things:
There is only one unisex toilet share between all 200 members.
Access to the water is by four wooden landing stages is achieved by navigating a gravel track that can be hazardous in winter.
Racking space is not sufficient and some equipment is stored outside which has led to theft recently
The plan for the facility is to build a brand new boathouse and a new water access along with some modifications to the newer boathouse.
The new boathouse will sit on the site of the existing 1970's shed. By being wider, taller and longer than the existing one it will increase the club's rack space by some 50%. At the same time the lateral space between racks will be improved, reducing the risks from boat handling.
The new access to the water will involve replacing the existing gravel track with a series of broad stone faced steps. At the same time, we will renew and extend the landing stages and provide hardstanding for the club's trailers. The steps would be a community facility, providing a vantage point where walkers can rest and take in the view.
By reconfiguring the space within the newer boathouse, we will create two more toilets and improved showers while increasing the size of the changing rooms by 50%.
However, we need your help to raise the funds to achieve this ambitious project! Any donation amount will be greatly received. You can donate here.
