12th/13th September 2024: Bumper Weekend for CSRC

What a weekend!

With regatta season behind us, the senior squads have moved into head races with a great start to the season.

On Saturday, CSRC sent a Men's Pair to race the 4500m Pairs head on the tideway in London. Racing the intermediate 2- category, our athletes punched above their weight and came away with 5th place. This is a great start for the club at the high-profile races and we will be carrying this momentum forward.

On Sunday, the whole club was out in force at Ancholme Head and the final race of the Explore Racing Series at Grosvenor Rowing Club in Chester. At Ancholme, the Men's quad came away with the fastest time of the day adding some much welcome silverware to the clubhouse. There were tremendous performances from all of the crews with wins for the  Op 2x, W MasB/D 4x-, W MasF 4x- (composite), Mx Mas C/D/E 2x and Op 1x. All of the other crews showed great spirit and raced hard for some great times. A special mention to the W J17 2x for racing in a higher age bracket and putting forward an outstanding performance showing off all their hard work!

With the culmination of eight months of racing in the Explore Racing Series, the final race was held at Grosvenor Rowing Club on Sunday. After a stellar performance on the day, the ladies from our Recreational Squad secured their victory for this year, topping the league! Presented with their trophy from Team GB's Harry Brightmore, everyone present had a great day and we are very proud of our racing recreational members.

Congratulations to everyone who raced over the weekend and a big thank you to Furnivall Rowing Club, Barnes Bridge Ladies Rowing Club, Ancholme Rowing Club and Grosvenor Rowing Club  for putting on and supporting us at these events.

21st/22nd June 2024: Henley Women's and Marlow Regatta

Once again, CSRC are heading down south to compete on the big stage. The Women's squad are sending a coxless quad to compete in the Chairman's trophy at Henley Women's regatta. This will consist of a 1500m time trial on the Friday followed by head to head races over the weekend for the successful crews. You can catch them on the YouTube livestream here: Henley Women's Regatta YouTube .

The Men's 4- will also be at Marlow Regatta racing the 2000m course at Eton Dorney in preparation for Henley Royal Regatta qualifiers on 28/06/2024. This event is also livestreamed and can be found here: Marlow Regatta at Dorney Lake YouTube .

8th/9th June 2024: Durham Regatta

We had multiple boats attend the prestigious Durham Regatta from singles to eights, really showing the clubs depth of membership.
Saturday was a good day and the crews dealt with an unusually windy river Wear. Admirable shifts were put in by all the crews but highlight of the day goes to Ciaran winning the Op Beginner 1x earning a spot on the T H De Winton Trophy with his first race for City of Sheffield.

Sunday brought a calmer day and the chance for more wins. With some close match-ups all through the day the scarlet and silver of Sheffield was always in the fight and we got to multiple finals. The Women's Elite 2- raced hard in their final against a fantastic Tyne Amateur Rowing Club pair. The Men's 8+ rounded out the day with a delayed final after losing their rudder in the semi, with massive help from the University of Sheffield Boat Club, the 8+ was able to get afloat and come up with a win for the Joseph Brown Memorial Cup despite being underdogs throughout the competition. A special thanks from the crew to Charlie MacMahon who jumped in at the eleventh hour to help us out.

The weekend was rounded out by ever-enjoyable Durham prize giving where the winning crews were awarded their trophy by the Lord Lieutenant of Durham and a special guest, University Boat Race winner, Matt Edge.
